Frequently asked questions

What is Vitamin D Therapy?

Vitamin D is the single most powerful vitamin, the most anti-cancer vitamin, and the one we are the most deficient in.

Our Vitamin D Light therapy uses specialized UVB lights to stimulate your skin’s natural production of Vitamin D, providing an alternative to sunlight exposure. If you don't live on the equator...you need this.

Benefits of Vitamin D Therapy

Vitamin D is essential for bone health, muscle function, immune support, and calcium levels.

  • Supports vitamin D production
  •  UVB exposure stimulates your skin to produce vitamin D naturally.
  • Supports bone health
  • Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and maintain healthy bones.
  • Supports muscle function
  • Adequate vitamin D is important for normal muscle function.
  • Supports immune function
  • Vitamin D plays a role in normal immune-system function.
  • Helps maintain healthy calcium and phosphorus levels
  • Both are important for normal bone and cellular function.
Why do I need Vitamin D?

During the summer months, just a few minutes of direct sunlight can give your body enough vitamin D to maintain a healthy supply. But Utah winters can make getting enough UVB sunlight difficult. Shorter days, colder temperatures, low sun angles, and more time indoors can limit the UVB exposure your skin needs to naturally produce vitamin D.

Vitamin D Light Therapy provides controlled UVB exposure that stimulates your skin's natural production of vitamin D3. Vitamin D is absorbed significantly better through your skin rather than delivering vitamin D through a supplement.

Vitamin D supports bone health, muscle function, calcium absorption, and normal immune function.

For Utahns looking for an option during the darker months, Vitamin D Light Therapy can provide a convenient way to support natural vitamin D production.

What to expect during your session
  • Our Vitamin D light is in our private room to ensure privacy and comfort.
  • Our staff will walk you back to the room and provide tanning bed style glasses to protect your eyes
  • You will stand 12 inches from the Vitamin D bulbs
  • To ensure maximum Vitamin D absorption, once the staff member leaves the room, you will remove as much clothing on the top half of the body as possible to expose skin.
  • Vitamin D can not be absorbed through clothing, so we recommend shirts be removed, optional to remove bra, and tie up hair to expose the most skin possible to the light.
  • Stand for 2 1/2 minutes facing the light, and 2 1/2 minutes with back facing the light
  • There is a timer on the machine, Light therapy is 5 minutes total.
Can I get Vitamin D from the sun instead?

Absolutely. Sunlight is a natural source of the UVB rays that naturally produce vitamin D in the skin. However, the amount of vitamin D your skin produces varies significantly based on season, time of day, latitude, skin pigmentation, clothing, sunscreen, and other factors. During winter, we recommend supplementing your sun exposure with vitamin D light therapy, because you can never get the UVB rays to produce Vitamin D in the skin in the fall, winter, and spring months in Utah.

How often should I use Vitamin D Light Therapy?

There isn't one schedule that is appropriate for everyone. Treatment frequency should be based on the specific device, UVB dose, skin type, and individual circumstances. We recommend using it every other day in the fall, winter, and summer months.

Can I use sunscreen during my session?

Sunscreen reduces UVB reaching the skin and therefore can interfere with vitamin D production. When using our Vitamin D light sunscreen is not recommended.

Will Vitamin D Light Therapy give me a tan or a sunburn?

No, our sessions are just 5 minutes at a controlled frequency with specialized light bulbs. The light will not change or harm the skin, but you do need to maintain the safety distance from the lights, about 12 to 14 inches.
